Mulawarman is the palace museum of Kutai Sultanate was built in 1963 as a replacement for the previous palace burned and was inaugurated on November 25, 1971 by Governor Wahab Abdoel Sjahranie, then handed over to the Ministry of Education and Culture dated February 18, 1976. [1]

Kedaton Hall has now been built as the residence of the Sultan Aji Muhammad Salehuddin II which has been named back in 2002. The Sultan's palace within the family cemetery there is a relative of the kingdom of Kutai and Jami Mosque 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin as witness the arrival of Islam in Kutai.

Museum formerly the palace buildings Kutai Sultanate was founded in 1932 by the Dutch government gave the palace to the Sultan Adji Parikshit Muhammad in 1935. Building materials is dominated by the concrete from the basement, floors, walls, insulation to the roof. On the front page there is a duplicate of the Statue Lembuswana Museum which is a symbol of the Kingdom of aquatic mammal. The architecture of the museum is adopted from the Dayak traditional architecture in the Kutai.

Inside the Museum Mulawarman stored historical objects once used by the Sultanate such as the Throne, The clash, Oversized Clothing, Spear, Kris, Meriam, Necklace and Yupa Inscriptions and Chinese Ceramics Collection. Erau Ceremony held each year,namely dance Kedaton Typical Ceremony and Buying the Dragon in the village of Kutai Lama. Where in each execution Erau also featured attraction in the form of Dance Arts Culture and Traditional Indigenous Upara from various other tribe in Indonesia and abroad.

Mulawarman Museum consists of two floors. Downstairs there is a collection of Chinese ceramics. while the first floor contains a collection of relics of patterned art. Behind the museum, visitors can shop for souvenirs typical of Dayak culture, stone jewelry, and other souvenirs.

Inside the museum are stored Mulawarman objects that have historical value / high art ever used by the Sultanate such as:

-Yupa inscription, which trdapat in this museum is a replica of the original Yupa contained in the National Museum in Jakarta.
