KochxBos Gallery in Amsterdam
Founded in 2005 by young and handsome couple Esther Koch and Hans Bos, this gallery shows artists of their own choice without declaring a defined artistic profile or program. But the intuition of the owners is perfect, so the KochxBos Gallery art exhibits are always interesting, focused on the new and exciting. Listed by The Guardian as one of the Top 10 Galleries in Amsterdam and awarded Critics Choice by Time Out Magazine, this gallery has a knack for surprise.
Gallery’s name
While for a foreign visitor the gallery’s name may seem exotic, for Amsterdam locals an ‘x’ is a familiar sign. There are three x'es in the Amsterdam coat of arms and in this city an ‘x’ appears everywhere. KochxBos is an Amsterdam way of saying Koch & Bos.
The artists of the gallery
The KochxBos Gallery opens each year 6 to 8 shows, and these are unique occasions to see the full presentation of one of their artists. You will find among them Canadian artist Ray Caesar (*1958) who creates his works using computers, although the result seems old fashioned, ironic and full of eroticism. Similar dreamlike world appears in the works by an Italian artists born and educated in San Marino - Nicoletta Ceccoli (*1973). Moreover, the KochxBos Gallery represents also a British fighting feminist artist Sarah Maple (*1985) and a French woman artist Ciou (*1981), Japanese Yoko d’Holbachie, American Korean Daniel Lim, American Chris Reccardi, Dutch artists _Harma Heikens, Peter Pontiac and Pepijn van de Nieuwendijk just to name the most important.
